What is a Guard Card?
A
guard card, also known as guard registration is a government issued permit-license
which allows a person to legally work within the security industry here
in the State of California. If your security position involves protecting
people or property and you interact with the general public you must by
law obtain a guard card or you and or your employer will suffer criminal
penalties as well as greater civil liability. The guard card is a credit
card size paper permit issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative
Services (BSIS) which is a government run licensing and regulatory agency
under the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). It is issued
only after you complete the requirements set by law. The Guard Card is
good for two years and must be renewed with 60 days of expiration in order
to continue working security with California.
How do you get a Guard Card?
In order to obtain a guard card you have to complete 3 simple steps. First you must complete a training Course at the National Security Enforcement Training Center (NSETC) either online or in person. The course which take approximately 6-8 hours to complete covers laws of arrest, regulations, liability issues, and an exam. Once the exam is successfully completed the student will have a certificate of completion accompanied with fingerprint forms. You will need to take the fingerprint forms to your local Police or Sheriff Department and get electronically fingerprinted (Live Scanned). After you get fingerprinted you'll be provided an ATI number which is also known as you background number. Now you can go online or mail in your application for a guard card. The application process take approximately 2-10 business days till approval if submitted online. If you mail in your application in will take approximately 2-6 weeks till your approved. You can check your approval status daily via the States BSIS website. Once your approved online you can print out your temporary permit and start working right away. It's that simple!

of the Security Training Centers state certified and licensed California
guard card training courses and more. NSETC's Security Training Center

How much does it cost to obtain a Guard Card?
Whether you complete the online or in-person course it's always the same cost through the NSETC Security Training Center because you'd be getting the same exact top quality guard card training. Since 2004 we've offered to beat any other Security Training Center's fees but haven't had to, because we are the most affordable solution anywhere, guaranteed! There are only 3 fees and each fee is paid separately to each entity. The first fee is paid to the NSETC Security Training Center and it's $49, the second fee is paid to the fingerprint center or Police/Sheriffs Department and that fee is exactly $51, the third and final fee is the State application and Permit fee of $50. The total comes out to $150. Remember every fee is paid separately and if a training center is collecting all the fees they are probably charging you a service/convenience fee for doing the steps for you, and ten times out of ten their fees are not cheap and usually hidden. Be careful if you choose another Security Training Center.
